Dontnod Entertainment, the studio behind Life Is Strange and Vampyr, is developing a new game called Twin Mirror.

The new game tells the story of a man named Sam who returns to his hometown of Basswood, West Virginia to attend his best friend’s funeral. But this visit becomes more than he ever bargained for when Sam wakes up one morning without any recollection of what happened the night before. However, a bloody shirt next to his bed suggests that something horrible has happened. He must now explore his hometown in order to discover what is going on and how he fits into it.

“Forced to confront his past, Sam finds himself torn between reconnecting with his loved ones and using his unique intellectual abilities to uncover the town’s dark secrets. But how do you know who to trust when you’re not even sure you can trust yourself?” Dontnod teased in a press release.

The game is described by Dontnod as a “story-driven investigation game” that will require players to explore a place where “the line between truth and deception is blurred.” That sounds like this game will explore some of the same mature themes seen in Life is Strange, which has become the staple of Dontnod’s narrative experiences.

“As his investigation progresses, Sam will uncover a web of intrigue that winds through Basswood’s evocative locations and draws in its colorful residents,” Dontnod said of the plot. “The same deductive reasoning and memory visualization skills that made Sam such an accomplished investigative journalist can help him untangle this mystery and unlock the truth buried deep within his unique mind.”

This psychological thriller has a real Twin Peaks vibe, which is probably no accident. Life Is Strange was in part a big homage to the work of David Lynch, with Dontnod sending players on a journey into a town full of secrets and unbelievable powers. Can this game live up to its predecessor?
