Since its launch late last year, Disney streaming service Disney+ has mostly been a place for the enormous entertainment conglomerate to house all of its library content. Big hits like The Mandalorian have been few and far between. Perhaps that changes this month as Disney+ welcomes arguably its biggest original movie yet.
Obviously, Artemis Fowl was never intended to be a Disney+ exclusive. The live-action adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s beloved YA novel was initially set for a theatrical release. Then COVID-19 reared its ugly head and sent everyone indoors. Now Artemis Fowl is set to be a fascinating test case for how original movies can fare on Disney’s streamer.
Elsewhere throughout the month is the usual Disney+ fare. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian premieres three of its episodes this month, including the finale on June 19. Be Our Chef also wraps up this month while It’s a Dog’s Life continues on strong. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief arrives on June 26, perhaps as an appetizer for Disney+’s long-awaited Percy Jackson series.
