Outlander Star Sam Heughan Visits Filming Locations in New Docuseries

Filming on Outlander season 6 was set to begin last month as part of Starz’s continuing efforts to appease fans of the time-traveling series who hate to wait very long for new episodes to appear, but as the industry shutdown went into effect earlier in the year, not even a Droughtlander could be avoided.

True, it might be a long wait for season 6 now that the pandemic has put a spanner in the works, but Starz has a new travel series in the pipeline starring Outlander‘s Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish that should please viewers who long to reconnect with the Scottish scenery from past seasons, as the pair will be visiting filming locations like Inverness and the Culloden battlefield for a new docuseries called Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.

Though Heughan remains on as one of Outlander‘s leads, his travel companion left the series a few seasons ago, but the two remain good friends. McTavish has gone onto star in AMC’s Preacher as The Saint of Killers, Netflix’s Lucifer as Father Kinley, and even popped up in 2018’s Aquaman as King Atlan. A keen ear will also recognise his voice from animated series like DuckTales and Castlevania, where he plays Dracula himself.

An official synopsis for Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham lies below…

“The half-hour, eight-episode series is a celebration of Scottish history and culture as Heughan and McTavish take viewers along on their adventures, discovering the rich, complex heritage of their native country, meeting various local artisans and experts, and experiencing genuine moments of awe and fascination as the duo share their travels with the audience rather than simply guiding them.

“The journey of Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham takes viewers from the heart of Scotland at Glencoe, the site of a great massacre and major clan feud to Inverness and the Culloden battlefield, the site of a great battle and historic turning point, known well to fans of Outlander, that molded Scotland as we know it today.”

“The genuine curiosity and passion that Sam and Graham have for the landscapes they visit and the stories they uncover while travelling through the heart of Scotland makes Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham a truly enjoyable journey of discovery for the audience,” said Christina Davis, President of Original Programming at Starz. “The series gives context and texture to Highland life and history, woven together, much like the tartan for which Scotland is so famous, and we look forward to taking this road trip with these two great friends.”

Holly Jacobs, Executive Vice President of Alternative and Syndication Programming at Sony Pictures Television, added “We are so excited to take viewers on this epic adventure with Sam and Graham. Their bond of friendship and genuine curiosity about the rich culture of Scotland is going to make for an unforgettable journey for all.”

Starz has yet to set a release date for Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham, but promises that it is coming “soon.”
