Fall anime season is in full swing, and now is the perfect time to dive into one of the many, many shows on offer in this jam-packed season.
With almost 100 shows to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming, so we’ve a selection of shows that you can be sure are worth your time…
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
The easiest recommendation we can make for this season. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is not only one of our favourite fall shows, it’s already shaping up to be one of our favourite shows of the whole year, and as we write this, we’re only eight episodes in.
Frieren is pure fantasy anime, the sort you know and love, packed with elves, dragons, demons and magic aplenty. So far, so formulaic, or so you might think. Where Frieren differs is that the show begins after the hero party has already defeated the demon lord’s army. While this 10-year quest was an incredible adventure for the rest of the heroes, for the party’s elven mage, the titular Frieren, it was a tiny fraction of her life, which can span 1000 years and beyond. She goes back to her life, but when one of the party members dies some years later, Frieren is hit with regret and sadness that she never got to know them. She decides to learn more about humans, and what follows is a slow-paced, introspective adventure that deals with loss, remembrance, and what it means to be remembered.
It’s a beautiful, beautifully drawn and wonderfully enchanting adventure that will have you reaching for the hankies on many an occasion. And with Madhouse at the helm, while the action may be fleeting, when it arrives, it will give you goosebumps. Fans of the Manga will enjoy seeing the story come to life on screen as it’s simply wonderful.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End won’t be for everyone, but you owe it to yourself to give it a watch because there’s so much to love here.
Why we love it: Slow and reflective, but with moments of spectacular action and storytelling, it’s an emotional journey that you’ll love being part of.

Attack on Titan: Final Season – The Final Chapters Part 2
We can’t quite believe that Attack on Titan is about to reach its conclusion. While the final season feels like it’s been going forever, which is not surprising considering it started airing in 2021, this is now the real, actual, final, final part of the final season, for realsies.
AoT is set in a fantasy world filled with giant, man-eating monsters, the titular titans, and the story follows Eren Yeager and his childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, as they join the Survey Corps, an elite anti-titan task force, and seek to stop the monsters and uncover the secrets of the world they know so little about.
Attack on Titan is action-packed, bloody, brutal, heart-wrenching, and absolutely epic on every level. The story is rich and complex, with twists and turns beyond belief that you’ll never see coming.
Why we love it: After 10 years, one of the greatest anime of all time reaches its epic conclusion.

Spy x Family – Season 2
Spy x Family has been keeping us entertained since it started airing last year, and Season Two is here to deliver more of the heart-warming hilarity we love. The show follows super-spy Twilight, as he’s tasked with gathering intelligence on prominent politician Donovan Desmond, all the while helping to maintain the uneasy peace between the nations of Ostania and Westalis.
However, to get closer to Desmond, who only rarely appears in public at the exclusive Eden Academy that his son attends, Twilight must assemble a fake family to infiltrate the school. Adopting the alias of Loid Forger, a renowned psychiatrist, life is not easy when he unknowingly chooses undercover assassin Yor Briar as his pretend wife and mind-reading esper Anya as their daughter. Cue much hilarity as they all attempt to appear as normal as possible while all too often managing to fail spectacularly and yet making it all work out in the end.
Spy x Family is a great show, it’s sweet, funny, with moments of drama and can definitely tug at the old heartstrings, too. It never fails to entertain, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. We’re big fans, and we can’t wait for the upcoming movie Code: White, either.
Why we love it: Goofy, hilarious and heart-warming in equal measure, Spy x Family will always put a smile on your face.

Undead Unluck
Oh boy, strap in for this one. Fuuko Izumo is afflicted with a horrific condition that causes anyone she touches to suffer horrifically bad luck that ends up killing them. She decides the only thing she can do is end it all. And then she meets an unkillable zombie she names Andy, whose only wish is to die, and who figures he can do just that by using her powers of misfortune.
If it sounds crazy, you don’t know the half of it. Undead Unluck has quite possibly the most hands-down insane opening episode of any anime we’ve seen, and we’ve watched Kill la Kill. This show is outrageous, it’s so ridiculous, so over-the-top, and just so downright silly. Highbrow entertainment, this ain’t, but if you’re looking for something that will blow the cobwebs away and leave you dazed and wondering WTF you just watched, Undead Unluck is exactly what you need in your life.
Why we love it: Absolutely unhinged, completely outrageous, totally ridiculous – what more could you ask for?
